TRIO VIDEO FAX CHECK – Spring / Summer 2011
Welcome back to Trio Video Fax Check. Spring and summer arrived with a whole slew of new and challenging projects… an alternative rocker concert, a major education summit, a new take on classic opera, historic political debates, world class music productions throughout North America… all in addition to our annual staple of Chicago-team MLB telecasts. Here are some of the details:
Back To School With NBC
Trio Video’s HD MU Rhythm and crew were honored to be on-site at Chicago’s WMAQ-TV Studios and the Field Museum as "Education Nation", an NBC News education initiative, took over the Windy City to engage in a solutions-focused conversation about the state of American education. The Teacher Town Hall was moderated at the NBC 5 Studios by NBC News' Tamron Hall and NBC Chicago’s Allison Rosati, while NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell and NBC Chicago's Lisa Parker met with Chicagoland leaders at the Field Museum to discuss the needs of a 21st century workforce and how best to prepare our students. Chicago area viewers were able to watch these important events live on the NBC Chicago Nonstop channel and nationwide at EducationNation.com. For more information about this and other education-focused projects, check in at NBCChicago.com and EducationNation.com.
Warm Weather Classics Ellie Goulding, an alternative singer/songwriter from London with an electro-pop style who emerged in 2009 as a worldwide web star phenomenon, performed live at a sold-out Lincoln Hall in Chicago earlier this spring. Trio’s newest MU Tempo and crew supplied cameras and tech support for this production by concert producer Giant Pictures of Austin, Texas. The webcast, sponsored by T-Mobile and Xbox, aired live on T-Mobile's Live Rising website. For additional information about this and other concerts, check out live-rising.com.
A World Changing Webcast According to CNET.com, “If you didn’t catch YouTube’s webcast of Coachella Music Festival in April… you missed a chance to see the music world changing before your eyes.” For the fifth consecutive year, mobile units Tango and Beta, staffed with Trio’s veteran engineers, were on-site to provide technical support for “YouTube’s most advanced live offering to date” with “unprecedented viewership levels at over 4 million viewing streams.” The innovative festival webcast, produced by AEG/Goldenvoice and Springboard Productions, included headliners Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire and Kanye West, while returning sponsor, Wrigley’s 5 gum, offered three channels of entertainment content. A special note for engineering fans… this event marked Trio’s inaugural festival use of groundbreaking EVS tapeless work flow and digital networking systems which enabled the archiving and distribution of content throughout the festival site and North America. For more information, check out YouTube.com or Coachella.com.
An Oscar Winner Tackles Wuthering Heights According to Minnpost.com, “the Minnesota Opera production of Bernard Herrmann's remarkable 'Wuthering Heights’ is superb!” HD MU Rhythm and tech crew were on hand in St. Paul for the 24p-format video production that was directed and produced by Joe Brandmeier of Moving Pictures Inc. The opera, scheduled to air in theatres and on cable TV next year, featured groundbreaking music composed by Hollywood legend, Bernard Herrmann. Herrmann, an Academy Award-winning American composer, has collaborated with Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles and Martin Scorsese. Minnesota Opera's new production celebrates the centennial of the composer's birth and is the first major revival of this forgotten masterpiece since it was written in Minneapolis in 1951. Broadway in Atlanta Once again, MU Tango and tech crew were on site at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Center as Tyler Perry Studios showcased Cassi Davis in the title role in “Aunt Bam’s Place”, as well as fan favorites, Palmer Williams and Patrice Lovely, in ”I Don’t Want To Do Wrong”. These 2011 American musical plays were created, written, produced, and directed by Tyler Perry for Lionsgate Entertainment and are planned for home video release. The Perry/Lionsgate collaboration has produced 11 films over the last six years, which have grossed nearly $600 million at the North American box office. Perry was recently named Forbes Magazine’s highest-paid man in Hollywood. For more information, take a look at TylerPerry.com.
The #1 Sunday Morning Show It was a very special Meet the Candidate on NBC’s Meet the Press this past August. Trio provided MU Tango, engineers and tech support for the nationwide live broadcast as host David Gregory conducted a one-on-one interview with presidential candidate Michelle Bachman, as well as other Iowa GOP candidates. Meet the Press is America’s most-watched Sunday morning program, as well as the longest-running television program in American broadcasting history. Twice as Much Entertainment North America’s largest music festival, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, aired on two websites for the first time this year. Entertainment website, vevo.com, carried highlights of all four days on all five music stages, while Comedy Central, hosted by Jon Benjamin, carried the best moments of the Bonnaroo Comedy Tent. Even though it was Trio’s sixth consecutive year participating, this was the first year that four separate mobile facilities were provided for this massive project. The production demands of the festival’s six stages and multiple content feeds required the supplying of two main production units (Tango and Rhythm) and two additional production support units (Beta and Blues) while again utilizing EVS tapeless work flow solutions and digital networking systems for archiving and distributing the significant content. Eminem, Wide Spread Panic and Arcade Fire, plus a very special Buffalo Springfield reunion, headlined this incredible and groundbreaking festival, which was produced by Axis/Superfly/AC Entertainment & ThirdWave Productions. For more information about this historic festival, check out Bonnaroo.com, ComedyCentral.com and VEVO.com.
Computer Giants Rock & Roll For the first time, Dell Computer Systems and AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) supplied their considerable promotional and technical expertise to Chicago’s Lollapalooza Music Festival (with headliners Foo Fighters, Coldplay & Muse) and Austin City Limits Music Festival (with headliners Stevie Wonder, Kanye West, Coldplay & Arcade Fire.) The seamless behind-the-scenes technical support allowed for an enhanced on-site fan experience, as well as an innovative and entertaining multichannel webcast. For the sixth and fifth consecutive years respectively, both webcasts, produced by C3 Presents and Springboard Productions, utilized Trio MU’s Rhythm, Beta and Blues. Both festivals enjoyed record-breaking attendance and unprecedented viewership levels on Youtube.com. Check out YouTube.com, Lollapalooza.com and ACLFestival.com for more information.
Still America’s #1 Sports Network On September 9th, the NFL on FOX kicked off its 18th regular season… and for the sixth consecutive year, Trio Video’s MU Tango and support unit Beta were on-hand. The new season found Trio’s tech team on-site in St. Louis as the Rams battled the Philadelphia Eagles. With an obvious goal to constantly improve its broadcasts, FOX Sports has added an updated animation package and multiple super slo-mos to each game, including Inertia Unlimited X-MO systems. Viewers must like what they see. According to Nielsen Media Research, FOX was again America’s #1 Sports Network last season… a title that they’ve held for over14 years. Check out msn.foxsports.com for the latest in news and sports scores.
World’s Biggest Classroom Trio was very pleased to recently supply HD MU Rhythm for a weeks’ worth of Oprah’s Lifeclass webcasts on Oprah.com. The interactive webcasts aired live following her weekday series of the same name which airs on the OWN cable network. The show features her most personal revelations plus all-new insights and life lessons from the 25 year history of The Oprah Winfrey Show. The conversations took place in front of a live studio audience and a potential worldwide audience of millions. For the latest information and to participate in the webcasts, check out Oprah.com.
And Finally, A Special Note All of us at Trio Video want to offer our best wishes and thanks to Oprah Winfrey and her Chicago-based Harpo Studio Staff and Crew - our friends and clients for over 25 years. Congratulations on an amazing quarter-century and a heartfelt good luck on all of your future endeavors!
