TRIO'S X2 EXPANDO UNIT COMPLETES DIGITAL CONVERSION IN RECORD TIME - 03/31/00
Chicago, IL (Mar 31) - Trio Video announced earlier today that X2, its 53-foot expando unit, has completed its digital conversion and is now back on the road.
The unit was taken offline for only ten days to make the analog to digital conversion.
"The demand for digital trucks was not that great when we built X2 back in 1998, so we made the decision to design X2 as an analog truck with digital gear and a digital infrastructure that would allow for an easy conversion when our clients really needed it," says Keith OBrien, Director of Production and Marketing at Trio Video.
With respect to video, X2 is a true D1 unit. All broadcast signals are picked up, routed, distributed, switched, output and recorded in true CCIR-601 format. The analog router/infrastructure has been kept in place and is used for monitoring. This means that X2 can also output in analog format, allowing for seamless integration with non-digital units as well.
Additions to X2 include the Pesa Jaguar 64x64 digital router and the Sony 7000 upgrade from serial composite to serial component with an expansion to 60 inputs.
"The 60-input expansion now allows for us to do a true clean feed from any point off any buss on the switcher," says Carl Roszczybiuk, Trio Video's Director of Engineering. "We additionally allowed for a liberal amount of A/D conversion to provide our client's the utmost capability in taking in outside analog sources."
Plans for X3, Trio's third expando unit, are now on the drawing board. X3, a fully digital unit, is presently slated for a roll-out in the first quarter of next year.
